QUEBEC EMPLOYMENT INCOME
Slips to expect:
If a person lived in Ontario on December 31 of the tax year but worked in Quebec, and QPP contributions were deducted, they should receive two slips from their employer for the same employment:
If they are missing one of these slips, they should contact their employer to request the missing form.
UFile:
In UFile, go to the section T4 and employment income and click the “+” beside T4 and RL-1 income earned in Quebec with QPP contributions. Note UFile’s instructions at the top, and follow them:
“This form applies if you earned T4 employment income in Quebec but were not a Quebec resident on December 31, 2023. Copy the amounts from your T4 slip (and Quebec RL-1 from the same employer) to the corresponding box numbers here. If a box is blank on your slip, do not enter zero here - leave it blank”.
Possible need to file a Quebec return:
A person resident in Ontario on December 31 will normally file a federal return and an Ontario return only.
However, in some cases, they may also be required to file a Quebec provincial return. For example, this may apply if they paid premiums under the Quebec Prescription Drug Insurance Plan during the year.
From a Quebec province web page:
Report that you were an Ontario resident:
On the Quebec return, on line 17, report being a resident of Ontario on December 31st.
